For me, the best part of this photograph is "the light at the end of the tunnel." This was phrase made famous in U.S. politics by Lyndon Johnson and his successors in connection with the war in Vietnam. It was, of course, a mythical light while the tunnel itself just caved in on that ill-conceived adventure. (The stupidity of the repetition of the same behavior more recently is frankly tragic.) The light at the end of most photographic treatments of a tunnel has symmetry and is frequently a half circle that emulates the shape of the sun or of the moon - - both sources of light. The light at the end of the tunnel glows in these photographs. But that is why I like your Tunnel. The light at the end, as a rectangle in the brightest spot, is more like a door. The geometrics of the end of the tunnel are all mixed up. We are not so certain that we want to move down the tunnel and might prefer to turn around particularly since the light in ceiling is a whole lot brighter!
