Almost a case study in how to put together a dynamic image, the secrets of the success of this photograph lie instead in the small elements without which the strength of the dominant curve would fall. Most visibly, the reflections on the underside of the waiting area support the roof. Take them away and you loose the image. The sheen on the street to the left and the red light force the eye to the appropriate level for the image creating at that level the opposition of the blue lights to the right. This sets up visual bounce, side to side, with the result of tracking the eye over the whole. The people are perfectly placed for scale and the motion blur adds action. The receding street (to a very far distance) to the left is critical to the introduction of the scene and the light in the sky also to the left almost evokes the nativity. And then there is this element of mystery to the solitary figure seated at the bench to the right. The whole purpose of the photograph could be that story - - or it's as mundane as person just waiting for the tram. Either way, it grounds the powerful thrust of the curved roof line by initiating a different conversation than just the architecture.

The distinctive "large" element is the failure to follow compositional rules. The entire frame makes sense in the blackness more than in the structure or from the street; a very impressive accomplishment.

Thanks so much for sharing this work on dA.

I really enjoy this particular image because of the mood. The presence and absence of people and lighting is surreal. I am very happy to have discovered your gallery.

Only you see things common people don´t.

A perfect marriage between technique and emotion. :) And the light is so perfect and yet soft, it's as if every street lamp was adjusted for this picture.
